The Bachelor's degree programme in Sustainable Chemistry provides students with sound chemical and scientific knowledge and enables them to help shape the transformation to a sustainable way of life. In addition to the basics of a Chemistry bachelors degree programme, contents include the basic principles of sustainability, the avoidance of waste and emissions, sustainable polymer materials, recycling management, catalysis and biocatalysis. Ethical issues and the responsibility of Chemistry in society are also addressed. At the same time, key competences such as independent work, scientific discussion and reporting, resilience and interdisciplinary teamwork are promoted.
In Bielefeld, we attach great importance to good teaching and personal support for students in order to create an optimal learning environment in which the individual needs of students are catered for and in which students are prepared for their future careers in the best possible way. Career prospects include working as a sustainability manager, in quality control, public administration or in non-governmental organisations.
The degree qualifies students for the English-taught Master's degree programme Sustainable Chemistry.

Access to the Bachelor programme is granted to those who have a university entrance qualification suitable for Germany (e. g. German ‘Abitur’).
Special conditions apply to applicants with a foreign certificate of education.

The study places are not subject to any admission restrictions (numerus clausus). Nevertheless, you need to apply within the currently applicable application deadlines. Afterwards, however, you can submit your application for enrolment directly in the application and status portal, provided that you meet the access requirements.
