Theologie ist nicht nur die älteste aller universitären Wissenschaften, sie gehört ganz sicher auch zu den vielfältigsten: Zur theologischen Auseinandersetzung mit Religiosität gehören philosophische Reflexionen ( v. a. innerhalb der Disziplin der Systematischen Theologie), geschichtswissenschaftliche Zugänge (v. a. in der Kirchengeschichte), gesellschafts- und humanwissenschaftliche Studien ( v. a. in der Religionspädagogik) wie auch die sprach- und literaturwissenschaftliche Beschäftigung mit Entstehung und Überlieferung der Bibel ( v. a. in den Bibelwissenschaften Altes und Neues Testament). Das Theologiestudium ist jedoch keineswegs allein auf das Christentum beschränkt; innerhalb der Religionswissenschaft findet auch eine Beschäftigung mit den übrigen Weltreligionen und verschiedensten religiösen Phänomenen statt. Zu den Besonderheiten der theologischen Abteilung Bielefeld gehören die Erforschung der (prä-)historischen Entstehung von Religion, von neuartigen Formen der Spiritualität sowie die Untersuchung der Bedeutung von Religion für Konfliktbeilegung und Friedensstiftung sowie für psychische und körperliche Gesundheit. Bei der Bearbeitung all dieser Themen zeichnet sich die Bielefelder Theologie durch große Offenheit für unterschiedliche Perspektiven und Fragestellungen aus, ebenso wie durch eine starke Vernetzung und Kooperation auch über Fachgrenzen hinweg. Das Studien- und Arbeitsklima ist durch engagierte Lehre, eine große Nähe zwischen Lehrenden und Studierenden und eine lebendige Diskussionskultur bestimmt.

Course start

Studies can be commenced in both winter and summer semesters. Courses are targeted to commencing studies in winter semester. Student counselling to plan the course of studies is recommended.

The standard period of studies is 6 semesters.

Access to the Bachelor programme is granted to those who have a university entrance qualification suitable for Germany (e. g. German ‘Abitur’).

Application, admission and enrolment ¹

The study places are not subject to any admission restrictions (numerus clausus). Nevertheless, you need to apply within the currently applicable application deadlines. Afterwards, however, you can submit your application for enrolment directly in the application and status portal, provided that you meet the access requirements. If you are already enrolled at Bielefeld University, you need to apply for a change of degree programme.
