Contents of the subject Psychology
A Minor Subject in Psychology is a useful addition to a variety of Major Subjects. The Minor Subject in Psychology does not qualify students for a psychological profession. Rather, it is designed to provide methodological skills as well as psychological knowledge and skills on the topics of educational psychology, health promotion, coping with illness and stress, and work and organizational psychology. These qualifications can be applied in a variety of professions where a high degree of self-regulation of one's own work as well as a high degree of communication and information processes have to be handled.

Two specialisations to choose from
In the Bachelor’s core subject, the two specialisations – Psychology and Psychotherapy – allow students to choose their own area of focus; the Psychotherapy specialisation is recognised under professional regulations and is therefore compliant with licensing requirements.
Broad foundational knowledge
The degree programme provides a fundamental understanding of psychological concepts and a solid grounding in academic research. Students learn to engage critically and analytically with various psychological theories and concepts.
Work-related placement
The 1-subject bachelor’s degree in Psychology (not the minor subject) includes a work-related placement, which provides students with practical experience in the field of psychology and thus helps them to find their feet.
Flexibility in specialisations
The broad scope of the programme allows students to choose their specialisations based on their interests. Students on the 1-subject bachelor’s degree in Psychology can specialise in areas such as clinical psychology, educational psychology, industrial and organisational psychology, or cognitive neuroscience.
As a minor, you can choose to specialise in Educational Psychology, Psychological Health Promotion, Coping with Illness and Stress, or Work and Organisational Psychology.

Career prospects
Upon completion of the single-subject Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, students should proceed to a Master’s degree programme in Psychology. Only upon obtaining a Master’s degree does one qualify as a psychologist. A minor in Psychology does not qualify students for careers in psychology, nor for our Master’s degree programmes in Psychology. The single-subject Bachelor’s degree in Psychology opens up a wide range of career prospects in various fields, for example:
Clinical Psychology: Graduates of the Master’s programme in Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy can obtain a licence to practise as a psychotherapist and subsequently begin further training to become a specialist psychotherapist. Psychotherapists are authorised to make diagnoses and provide therapeutic treatment (e.g. in hospitals or in their own practice).
Counselling centres: Counselling centres require qualified psychologists to, for example, support people in crisis situations and develop preventative programmes.
Business and administration: Psychologists also find employment in business and administration, where they can work in areas such as staff development, organisational psychology or health promotion.
Research and teaching: Graduates have the opportunity to work in research and teaching, whether at universities or in research institutes, where they can investigate psychological issues and deliver lectures.

What are the access requirements?
Access to the Bachelor programme is granted to those who have a university entrance qualification suitable for Germany (e. g. German ‘Abitur’).
Special conditions apply to applicants with a foreign certificate of education.
Likewise, special conditions apply to those qualified in vocational education and training.
