Studien- und Prüfungsordnung vom 01.06.2021
Clinical Linguistics deals with the variations of speech, language, voice, swallowing and communication in the context of various diseases and possible acquisition problems. Neurological diseases such as a stroke with aphasia, dysarthria and swallowing problems are just as much a part of the disorders addressed in the degree programme as communication, voice, fluency and hearing disorders or problems of language acquisition in childhood. The degree programme also includes components from linguistics, medicine, psychology and education. These subjects are considered to be fundamental to the curriculum.
The "Clinical Linguistics / Speech and Language Therapy" Bachelor's degree programme is a Bachelor's degree without a minor subject and qualifies students to work as an academic speech therapist. The degree programme focuses on symptoms, explanatory models, diagnostic procedures and therapeutic approaches to the above-mentioned disorders. It is a practice-oriented degree programme in which diagnostic and therapeutic behaviour is taught so that students can subsequently work in a medical profession. Due to the high proportion of speech therapy internships, the degree programme lasts seven semesters. Internships in the field of neurological disorders are organised through the degree programme. They are closely linked to accompanying courses and are supervised. For other disorders, internships primarily take place in speech therapy facilities and practices.
The degree programme enables students to act independently, work scientifically, make sound scientific judgements and apply scientific methods independently.
Students should learn to use their own language in a reflected and appropriate manner in spoken and written form and acquire key qualifications. Against the background of the WHO's International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF), the programme focuses on the functionality of language skills as well as participation aspects, barriers, support and personal factors in the context of language impairments.
The degree programme meets the requirements of the admission recommendations of the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Funds for full admission in the field of speech and language therapy. Graduates of the Bachelor's degree programme are admitted to deliver voice, speech, language and swallowing therapy.
You will find the programme of lectures for this course in the eKVV.
