Competencies

Upon completion of the module, students will be able to critically discuss societal aspects of sustainable development. They will be able to identify areas of conflict, contextualize historical responsibilities, and formulate ethical questions. Students will also be able to argue for opposing positions and justify their own view.

Content of teaching

The module discusses topics from the history of science (history of the chemical industry, production of basic chemicals, regulation and residues, globalization) as well as questions related to the Anthropocene and the technosphere (social metabolism, modelling of the Anthropocene).

The topic of the presentation is determined at the beginning of the course. The presentation will be presented at the end of the course using suitable media such as slides, posters or blackboard notes and put up for critical discussion. The duration of the presentation is agreed at the beginning.
