The Master's degree programme in Linguistics teaches a particularly broad spectrum of advanced linguistic knowledge and methodological skills, including the linguistic research areas represented in Bielefeld, which enable graduates to systematically describe linguistic, communicative and cognitive structures and processes and embed them in the framework of current linguistic theory.
With the skills they have acquired, graduates are able to independently apply qualitative, quantitative and grammatical-theoretical methods of analysis to complex linguistic phenomena and related issues. In addition, graduates are familiar with the basics of computational linguistic and neurolinguistic analyses of linguistic structures and processes. The Master's degree programme allows students to choose their own specialisation within the fields of general linguistics, computational linguistics, communication, laboratory phonology and experimental phonetics, neurolinguistics and psycholinguistics or in the area of clinical linguistics.
The degree programme enables students to qualify for an academic career in research and teaching and also opens up prospects for numerous professions, for example in the fields of media and journalism, technical documentation, text and language technology, public relations, corporate communication, human-machine interaction, language documentation or language teaching.
