Contents of the subject Molecular Biotechnology

Interdisciplinary education
The degree programme offers a comprehensive interdisciplinary education that focuses on molecular aspects and bioinformatics. This enables students to acquire knowledge in various areas of biotechnology, which is of great importance in modern research and industry.

High practical component
A high proportion of practical work placements during the course of the programme ensures that students can learn and apply common biotechnology techniques and methods. This practical training is crucial for later application in professional life and promotes graduates' ability to do a doctorate.

Broad range of possible applications
The degree programme emphasises the development of an individual profile with a focus, qualifying students for a wide range of professional fields. This flexibility enables graduates to work in different areas of biotechnology.

Integration into current research
Students benefit from close links to current research projects at the faculty and the opportunity to participate in interdisciplinary study visits abroad. This not only promotes an understanding of the practical application of biochemical concepts, but also networking with the research community.

Strong demand on the labour market
Graduates are in high demand in industry due to their broad range of skills and high demand. The programme prepares them for many career paths in biotechnology and related fields.
The program opens up a wide range of career opportunities in various fields, such as:

Pharmaceutical Industry: Graduates often find employment in the pharmaceutical industry, where they can work in drug research and development or in quality control.

Genetic Engineering Laboratories: Genetic engineering laboratories offer numerous opportunities, such as in the development of new genetic engineering techniques or in conducting experiments to investigate genetic aspects.

Medical Research: A career in medical research opens up opportunities in the development and conduct of clinical trials that explore biotechnological solutions for treating diseases.

Process Engineering: Graduates can work in process engineering, where they are involved in the development and optimization of biotechnological production processes.

Science Journalism and Consulting: Careers in science journalism or in advising companies and institutions on biotechnological developments and innovations offer further professional opportunities where graduates can apply their knowledge.

Access to the Master programme is granted to those who can provide evidence that they have a first university degree which has a standard period of study of at least six semesters, qualifies for exercising a profession and is in accordance with the subject-specific regulations.

In any case, please read the specific Admission requirements for this Masters programme in the Subject-specific regulations (PDF).
Degrees from accredited Bachelor programmes at German ‘Berufsakademien’ are equivalent to Bachelor degrees from universities.
