Against the backdrop of pressing current environmental problems such as the loss of biodiversity, global warming, the problem of pollutants and neobiota, scientific research and solutions to environmental problems have become increasingly important. Students of Environmental Sciences are involved in researching biological-ecological as well as chemical and physical principles that are relevant to the sustainable organisation of the relationship between humans and nature.

However, in order to implement findings effectively in practice, they must also be incorporated into corresponding laws, regulations and instructions. This requires both environmental biology and legal knowledge. For this purpose, Bielefeld University offers a unique degree program in Environmental Sciences that combines a variety of subjects. The programme requires an interest in biological, chemical and physical topics as well as an openness and interest in juridical content and issues and their application in an environmental context. The degree programme offers a solid foundation in environmental biology, but also knowledge in environmental chemistry, environmental physics and, in particular, environmental law.
