Sustainable Chemistry

Sustainable Chemistry combines a solid foundation in the chemical and natural sciences with the question of how substances, materials and processes can be designed to be more environmentally and climate friendly. The programme focuses on topics such as waste and emission prevention, sustainable materials and polymer concepts, the circular economy, (bio-)catalysis, energy and climate issues, and methods such as life cycle assessment. In addition, ethical questions and chemistry’s responsibility in society are explored. At Bielefeld University, students benefit from high-quality teaching, personal academic support and practice-oriented projects. Career paths range from the chemical and pharmaceutical industries to environmental management and consultancy, as well as public administration, non-profit organisations and research.
