Short biography Prof. Dr Andreas Zick
Andreas Zick is Director of the Institute for Interdisciplinary Research on Conflict and Violence (IKG), Professor of Socialisation and Conflict Research at the Faculty of Education at Bielefeld University Professor and Scientific Director of the Conflict Academy, ConflictA, founded in April 2023 at Bielefeld University.
After studying psychology and Protestant theology at the Ruhr University in Bochum, Andreas Zick completed his doctorate at the Philipps University in Marburg in 1996 and habilitated in psychology at the Martin Luther University in Halle-Wittenberg in 2008. His habilitation was dedicated to the "psychology of acculturation", i.e. the question of how people acquire new cultural environments and experience and overcome conflicts in the process. Andreas Zick was appointed Professor of Socialisation and Conflict Research at Bielefeld University in 2008. Since 2013, he has headed the Institute for Interdisciplinary Research on Conflict and Violence (IKG), an institution of Bielefeld University. In interdisciplinary research groups, the IKG investigates the foundations, phenomena and effects of intra-societal conflicts and violence. This also includes the prevention of extremism and radicalisation.
In 2016, Andreas Zick received the Communicator Award of the Donors' Association for the Promotion of Sciences and Humanities in Germany and the German Research Foundation (DFG) and in 2022 the Nevitt Sanford Life-Time Award for Political Psychology of the International Society for Political Psychology.
