Dr. Jan Thomas Martini is a Senior Lecturer (Akademischer Oberrat) at the Chair of Business Administration, Management Accounting and Taxation at the Faculty of Business Administration and Economics at Bielefeld University. His academic work focuses on management accounting, particularly transfer pricing, and also reaches into taxation and auditing. He combines extensive teaching and supervision experience with active research.
He earned his doctorate (Dr. rer. pol.) from Bielefeld University with a dissertation on transfer pricing and holds two master's degrees: a Diplom-Kaufmann in Business Administration from Bielefeld University and a Master of Arts in International Business from Rennes School of Business. His research has been published in journals such as Contemporary Accounting Review (CAR), Journal of Accounting and Public Policy (JAPP), Journal of International Accounting, Auditing and Taxation (JIAAT), and Review of Accounting Studies (RAST). His work has received the Reviewer of the Year award from Business Research (BuR), the Best Paper Award from the Verband der Hochschullehrer und Hochschullehrerinnen für Betriebswirtschaft (VHB), and the Dissertation Prize from the Westfälisch-Lippische Universitätsgesellschaft Bielefeld (UGBi).
Since joining the faculty in 2000, Dr. Martini primarily teaches master's courses in management accounting, supervises master's theses –also in cooperation with industry partners– and currently serves as Erasmus coordinator. He reviewed for academic journals and organizations such as Business Research (BuR), European Journal of Operational Research (EJOR), Journal of Business Research (JBR), Review of Accounting Studies (RAST), Schmalenbach Business Review (SBR), Verband der Hochschullehrer und Hochschullehrerinnen für Betriebswirtschaft (VHB), and the Agency of Science and Higher Education Croatia (AZVO) and acted as interim chair at Leibniz University Hannover (Institute of Management Accounting). His professional memberships include the Schmalenbach-Gesellschaft für Betriebswirtschaft and its Working Group on Transfer Pricing, as well as the German Economic Association for Business Administration (GEABA).
