Der Blockkurs wird sich auf sich auf einen besonderen Typus von sozialen Systemen konzentrieren, nämlich auf Grenzsysteme, die sich zwischen zwei anderen Sozialsystemen bilden und Funktionen des Spannungsausgleichs tragen. Als Anwendungsfälle dieses Begriffs sollen unter anderem diskutiert werden: die klassische Diplomatie, sogenannte Metaorganisationen vom Typus der Vereinten Nationen, schichtübergreifende Interaktionen in Großhaushalten, Institutionen der Politikberatung vom Typus des Wissenschaftsrats.
