En este curso vamos a leer y discutir sobre el concepto de la cortesía verbal. Últimamente se ha experimentado un importante crecimiento en este campo de investigación, tanto a nivel teórico general como en relación a datos del mundo hispánico.
Partiendo tanto de modelos clásicos (sobre todo: Brown/Levinson 1987) como de intentos recientes de superar algunos problemas de éstos (por ejemplo, Watts 2003), vamos a discutir, entre otros, las siguientes preguntas:
¿Qué significa "ser cortés" y "ser descortés"? ¿Efectivamente existen universales de cortesía? ¿Cuáles son las estrategias de cortesía más importantes del español? ¿Qué sucede en situaciones de contacto intercultural? ¿Cómo darse cuenta de las dinámicas interaccionales dentro de una conversación, que pueden resultar en posibles cambios en el grado de cortesía?
