230096 Passgeschichten. Von 'papierlosen Nomaden' und den Apparaturen ihrer Überwachung I (S) (WiSe 2025/2026)

Staatenlose und Vertriebene sind paradigmatische Figuren der Moderne. Als „papierlose Nomaden“ (Joseph Roth) hinterfragen sie die Grenze ebenso wie die Apparaturen zu ihrer Überwachung. Entsprechend reich ist die Literatur des 20. und 21. Jahrhunderts an Personen, welchen der Pass oder Ausweis als papierenes Doppel fehlt. Autorinnen und Autoren wie Joseph Roth, B. Traven, Anna Seghers, Agota Kristof, Bertolt Brecht, Tejo Cole oder Amitava Kumar verhandeln mit den provisorischen oder unvollständigen Papieren das prekäre Verhältnis von materiellem Beweis, Identität und Überleben.
Im Zentrum des Seminars stehen Texte der Klassischen Moderne. Diskutiert werden jedoch auch Romane, die die großen politischen Veränderungen in Mittel- und Osteuropa bzw. den Zusammenbruch der Diktaturen zum Thema haben, darunter Agota Kristofs Roman "Der Beweis", Herta Müllers "Reisende auf einem Bein", Dimitrij Kapitelmans "Eine Formalie in Kiew" und Jan Wagners Essay "Versuch über Pässe".
Das Seminar ist über zwei Semester angelegt, da wir uns auch mit Filmen und dem Computerspiel "Papers, please (2013) beschäftigen werden. Es muss jedoch nicht über zwei Semester besucht werden.
