In this broad introduction to creative writing, students experiment with various kinds of prose fiction and creative non-fiction, as well as - time permitting - exploring some subgenres of poetry and drama. In addition to providing a forum for committed and hard-working participants to work intensively at their own writing skills, the seminar should interest future teachers alert to the rich potential of creative writing in teaching language and literature. Praxistudien related to this seminar have to be discussed and designed on an individual basis in consultation with me.
The seminar is open to any student of English who enjoys creative writing, or would like to try it - provided there is enough space in the room. Please note, though, that students in the new BA (2011-2012 onwards) can only get credit for the seminar if they take it in the Vertiefungsmodul 6, as VM6.2. However, this is a course that tends to attract people who participate solely for the pleasure of writing and being with like-minded individuals - and that is what gives the class its soul and energy.
Will be presented in class and online.

Regular participation in classroom writing exercises and submission of a "polished piece" in a genre of your choice at three-weekly intervals are the basic requirements for all participants.
Students who are taking the seminar for VM6.2 in the “new” BA should prepare a portfolio of their “polished pieces”, as well as anything else they would like to present, such as writing they did in class or excerpts from their Writer’s Notebooks, advice on writing or excerpts from favourite writers writing that they found impressive or useful. Portfolios should be submitted at the end of the first week of the semester break.
If students in VM6 wish to do their “Projektarbeit” for 4 LPs in this seminar, they should approach me to discuss a project.
All the course requirements will be explained in detail in the seminar and made available online. Praxisstudien possible.
