Der Bildungsroman ist eine etwas sperrige Gattung, die wir uns in diesem Seminar erschließen wollen. Anhand von Close Readings ausgewählter Texte werden die formalen und inhaltlichen Merkmale dieser als spezifisch deutsch geltenden Literaturgattung erarbeitet, und Zuordnungsprobleme reflektiert. Diesen Zugriff werden wir anschließend um einfache Methoden des Distant Reading ergänzen. Hierbei werden der Aufbau eines Korpus für die computergestützte Textanalyse und die Entwicklung von Fragestellungen für größere Textkorpora problematisiert.
Voraussetzung ist die Bereitschaft, sich mit einfachen Methoden der computergestützten Literaturwissenschaft für das Distant Reading vertraut zu machen. Vorkenntnisse in Programmierung oder Digital Humanities sind nicht erforderlich.
