220105 Verflochtene Revolutionen: USA, Frankreich und Haiti, 1775-1804 (S) (SoSe 2023)

Welche Faktoren führten zum Amerikanischen Unabhängigkeitskrieg 1775? Wie beeinflusste dieser die Französische Revolution in Europa um 1789? Und wie wirkten sich beide Ereignisse auf die französischen, auf Sklavenarbeit beruhenden Kolonien in der Karibik aus? - Allen voran Saint Domingue, die wichtigste der französischen "Zucker-Inseln", die im Laufe ihres Unabhängigkeitskampfs (1791-1804) zu Haiti wurde, der ersten, durch selbst-befreite Afro-Kariben geführten Republik der Welt. Um diese Fragen dreht sich unser Seminar, das den Fokus auf die Verflochtenheit der politischen Umwälzungen im "Age of Revolutions" in Nordamerika, der Karibik und Europa legt.

Anhand von Forschungsliteratur und ausgesuchten Primärquellen erarbeiten Sie sich sozial-, ideen- und politikgeschichtliche Perspektiven auf die revolutionären Ereignisse in den Amerikas und Europa am Ende des 18. Jahrhunderts.
