Tische sind allgegenwärtig. Jedoch werden sie oft in zwei Hinsichten übersehen. Einerseits schauen wir auf Tische von oben herab. Andererseits sind sie so omnipräsent, dass sie oft im Hintergrund verschwinden. Dieses Seminar schlägt vor, dass wir Tische und deren gesellschaftliche Leistungen näher in Betracht nehmen. Tische dienen häufig als Instrumente, die Menschen versammeln, seien das Freunde oder auch diplomatische Feinde. Tische können Lösungen anbieten, seien die politischer oder praktischer Natur. Sie können verschiedene Kulturen überbrücken oder - manchmal zeitgleich - «Andere» ausgrenzen. Tische können Information organisieren sowie Tafeln Information aufbewahren können. Sie sind Fläche. Sie sind Struktur. Sie sind Zwischenraum. Tische fungieren also als Knotenpunkte, die wir in diesem Seminar anfangen werden zu entwirren.
