Die Historische Orientierung Staatlichkeit in der modernen europäischen Geschichte begleitet den Grundkurs Formen der Staatlichkeit in der europäischen Geschichte. Überwiegend als Lektürekurs organisiert, vermittelt sie Überblicks- und Hintergrundwissen zu Prozessen der Herausbildung, Veränderung und Fragmentierung von Staatlichkeit im 19. und 20. Jahrhundert; zugleich stellt sie Ansätze vor, diese Komplexe theoretisch zu fassen. Die gemeinsame Lektüre wird ergänzt um kleinere Übungen, bei denen die Arbeit mit spezifischen Quellenarten, etwa Lexikonartikeln, im Mittelpunkt steht.
