Las crónicas y los textos que tratan la Conquista y la colonización de América Latina en su tiempo nos ofrecen visiones muy distintas del continente, pero coinciden en el hecho de dar ante todo un testimonio revelador acerca de los propios intereses de los autores. Narrar la Conquista significa construir el así llamado ‘nuevo mundo’ y es precisamente este procedimiento, el cual estará en el foco del seminario. Así mismo teniendo en cuenta los fundamentos básicos sobre las concepciones de lo propio, lo otro y lo ajeno, analizaremos algunos extractos de las obras de Cristobal Colón, Hernán Cortés, Bartolomé de las Casas, Bernal Díaz del Castillo, Bernardino de Sahagún, Inca Garcilaso de la Vega, Franciso López de Gómara, Álvar Nuñez Cabeza de Vaca, Jean de Léry y Hans Staden. Además discutiremos adaptaciones literarias y cinematográficas como Malinche (Laura Esquivel) y 1492 (dir. Ridley Scott).
