Marc Bloch, Fernand Braudel, Georges Duby, Jacques Le Goff, ...Eine der prägendsten Strömungen des letzten Jahrhunderts für die Geschichtswissenschaft war zweifellos die französische École des Annales, die ihren Namen der 1929 gegründeten Fachzeitschrift Annales d'histoire économique et sociale verdankt. Ihre Innovationskraft bestand unter anderem darin, Nachbardisziplinen für die Geschichtswissenschaft nutzbar zu machen, quantifizierbares Material zu erschließen und langfristige Entwicklungen in den Blick zu nehmen. So trug sie auch dazu bei, dass sozial- und wirtschaftsgeschichtliche Fragestellungen in den Fokus der Geschichtswissenschaft gerieten und diese sich auch „den kleinen Leuten“ zuwendete.
Im Seminar werden wir uns eingehender mit den historischen Ansätzen der Annales-Schule, ihrer Rezeption in unterschiedlichen Ländern und exemplarisch mit einigen herausragenden VertreterInnen beschäftigen. Ebenfalls auseinandersetzen werden wir uns mit der Entwicklung dieser Strömung und der Frage, ob und wie einflussreich sie – immerhin 90 Jahre nach ihrer Gründung – für die heutige Geschichtswissenschaft noch ist.
