Die angewandte Molekulargenetik hat für die Fermentationstechnik viele neue Möglichkeiten der Stammentwicklung eröffnet. Dazu gehören u.a. die Produktion von ursprünglich schwer zugänglichen Stoffen, die Produktion von völlig neuen Substanzen, sowie Optimierungsmöglichkeiten für Produktion und Aufarbeitung in der Fermentationstechnik. In der Vorlesung werden die folgenden Themen in Kapiteln behandelt:

- Gentechnik und Genome Engineering II (ZFN/ TALEN/ CRISPR-Cas/ Prime Editing/ CRISPRai)
- Synthetische Mikrobiologie - Minimale Organsimen
- Molekulare Charakterisierung von Stämmen
- DNA Replikation
- Proteinbiosynthese
- Posttranslationale Modifikation
- Lokalisierung und Aufarbeitung
- Stämme und Fermentation
- Recht Sicherheit und Ethik
- Metabolic Engineering (Primäre Metabolite/ Sekundäre Metabolite/ Multi-Gen-Expressionssysteme)
