Die bundesdeutsche Gesellschaft ist nicht mit der Weimarer Republik vergleichbar, aber das Anwachsen des organisierten Rechtsextremismus lässt Fragen zur Weimarer Republik aktuell werden. Die Vorlesung bietet einen Überblick über die sehr dichte und ereignisreiche Geschichte der Weimarer Republik. Sie behandelt die wichtigen Fragen der innenpolitik, der wirtschaftlichen und der sozialen Entwicklung in den 1920er und frühen 1930er Jahren und sucht nach den Ursachen für die Instabilität der ersten vollständig entwickelten parlamentarischen Demokratie in Deutschland. Die Studierenden erhalten einen Überblick über die Ergebnisse der Forschung, über Forschungspositionen und über Kontroversen der historischen Forschung.
