In this class, we will look at various languages spoken in Ireland. This includes both of the official languages of the Republic of Ireland, Irish and English, as well as languages or dialects spoken by minorities, for example Ulster Scots, Shelta, and L2 varieties of English. We will investigate the form and function of regional and social varieties of these languages and connect them with important social and historical developments.
