This Genres, Authors, Periods class aims to give an overview of US-American literature of the 20th century with a focus on poetry and drama. We will thus further our understanding of both literary genres in conceptual terms, look into major literary movements of the 20th century, and close-read a selection of famous poems and plays from the century.
The class is best taken in conjunction with "Analyzing and Interpreting Literary Texts".
