220076 Zum Lachen. Lachen in Kunst und visueller Kultur (S) (SoSe 2024)

Als der Naturphilosoph Thales von Milet beim Betrachten des Himmels in einen Brunnen fällt, lacht eine ihn beobachtende thrakische Magd. Ihr freches Lachen – hier im Sinne des Bergson’schen Auslachens – war subversiv und ging in die ansonsten eher ernste Philosophiegeschichte ein (u.a. Platons „Theaitet“). Ähnlich der Philosophie verhandelt auch die vermeintlich seriöse Kunst – und nicht nur die Karikatur – Lachen, Humor und Witz. Was ist ein Bildwitz? Wer lacht über wen? Über was wird gelacht? Im Seminar lesen wir dazu gemeinsam Klassiker der Lach-Kultur (Sigmund Freud, Henri Bergson, Michail Bachtin), erweitern sie um Ansätze von Susan Sontag zu „Camp“ oder Sara Ahmed zu „Happy Objects“ und „Feminist Killjoy“, diskutieren sowohl künstlerische Arbeiten von Marcel Duchamp, Fischli/Weiss, Steve McQueen, Rodney Graham, Anna und Bernhard Blume, Cindy Sherman, Antonia Baehr u.a. als auch die Frage, worüber darf nicht gelacht werden (anhand von Roberto Benignis „Das Leben ist schön“).
