Stress is an ubiquitous, everyday phenomenon in organizations and other social settings. Use of the concept is prominent across the social sciences but much less so in sociology and, more particularly, social and organizational theory. The aim of the seminar is to explore stress in organizations from a sociological perspective. Particular emphasis is placed on modeling and simulation as techniques of theory elaboration. The course also includes a tutorial in agent-based modeling and provides opportunities for investigating and, to some extent, elaborating models of stress in organizations using the NetLogo software.

Basic familiarity with issues in contemporary organizational theory will be useful.
No prior technical training is required.
