220005 Was bedeutet Freiheit? Eine ideengeschichtliche Einführung (S) (WiSe 2020/2021)

In diesem Seminar beschäftigen wir uns mit den Vorstellungen und Konzeptualisierungen von Freiheit aus ideengeschichtlicher Perspektive. Wie verstanden und konzipierten führende europäische Denker des 18. und 19. Jahrhunderts wie John Locke, Immanuel Kant, Jean-Jacque Rousseau, Montesquieu, Adam Smith, John Stuart Mill und Karl Marx den Begriff der Freiheit? Welche Divergenzen, Überschneidungen und Konvergenzen weisen diese Freiheitsvorstellungen zu denjenigen einflussreicher Autoren des 20. und 21. Jahrhunderts auf (z.B. Isaiah Berlin, John Rawls, Quentin Skinner, G.A. Cohen und Alex Gourevitch)? Wie wurden im Laufe des 17. Jahrhunderts Antonyme wie Unfreiheit und Herrschaft der Freiheit gegenübergestellt? Für die Lektüre der Literatur werden Englischkenntnisse vorausgesetzt.
