230715 Englisch: Academic Writing in English, Level B1 (S) (WiSe 2018/2019)

Contents, comment

We will use a variety of writing exercises each week as well as various homework exercises that will develop our skills in:
- analyzing texts for content and meaning
- extracting the important information
- organizing and structuring the information
- writing analyses and summaries organized and structured in style of standard English academic writing.

Regular participation in the sessions plus the completion of a portfolio of assigned writing tasks are required. The tasks include:
- 2 major writing projects: a short story analysis and an article summary which compares two sides of a topic

Requirements for participation, required level

One of the following:
1) Successful completion an A1.2 course
2) A B1 level rating the C-Test of the Language Center -- for dates please see http://www.uni-bielefeld.de/fachsprachenzentrum/tests_and_certs/placement.html
3) Permission of the instructor - can be arranged at the first class or with an email request to the instructor.

- This course will cover the key elements of good English writing using short texts, exercises in grammar and usage, and class discussions.
