The course uses a variety of short texts and builds students' skill through targeted writing exercises. Students learn how to make effective notes to simplify the writing of their texts, how to avoid plagiarism, how to write factual and comparative summaries, how to write a personal opinion essay and how to write a critical analysis.
The course includes three major writing projects which will be developed step-by-step throughout the semester, including writing a comparative summary, writing an analysis of a short story, and writing a text related to a student's studies or career needs.
One of the following - either 1, 2 or 3:
1) Successful completion of B1 English Writing or a B2-rated course
2) A B2+ score on the C-Test at the Language Center - for dates please see http://www.uni-bielefeld.de
3) Permission of the instructor - can be arranged at the first class or with an email request to the instructor.

"Writing Techniques and Textual Analysis B2 English" is the sequel to "Academic Writing in English, Level B1." In this B2 Writing course you will develop your academic writing skills, improving both your confidence and technique. We will discuss and analyze and write several 300-500 word projects on a variety of short texts, intended to represent the relevant and important styles of English writing that you are likely to encounter as you advance your career.
English writing uses specific structures and organizational techniques that are often different from other languages. This course will explain and provide advanced knowledge of how English is constructed and teach you important writing and analysis methods which professional writers use, including techniques you can use in your career to continually analyze and improve the quality of your writing.
