Class starts only on the 11.04.2023!
Causal Inference in Economics.
We will discuss a range of methods relating to causal inference (IV, Matching, Diff-in-Diff, Discontinuity designs etc.) which are relevant in modern empirical research.
As examples for the discussed methods, we consider papers in the field of economics (political economy, international economics) to further strengthen the intuition and understanding of the methods.
Finally, we will likely devote one or two sessions on extending the traditional toolbox of causal inference and discuss causal neural networks.
The students will give presentations which largely determine their grade. Beyond that this class aims to equip the students with the ability to critically question employed methodology and thus it is
expected that students actively participate in discussions.
The course will be held in presence and in English. In case there are only German native speakers in the class we might consider switching to German.

In cases where a module description mentions more than one kind of assignment, the respective member of the teaching staff will decide which task(s) they assign the students.
