Das Seminar befragt an einschlägigen Beispielen und grundlegenden Texten die Geschichte der Kunstbetrachtung. Welche Kulturtechniken des Schauens und Wahrnehmens haben unterschiedliche Institutionen wie beispielsweise das Museum, die Weltausstellung, das Heimatmuseum oder das Kino hervorgebracht? Wie beeinflusst die sogenannte Salonhängung des 19. Jahrhunderts (bei der Bilder großer Menge und Dichte gehängt sind), den Akt der Betrachtung im Gegensatz zu der auratisch aufgeladenen Einzelpräsentation heutiger Museen? Welche Rolle spielen Maße oder Zugänglichkeit, der Umstand, dass eine Arbeit zum Sitzen, Liegen oder Gehen zwingt? Wie korreliert die mediale und technische Zurichtung des Schauens mit bestimmten immersiven, mimetischen oder distanzierenden Formen der Betrachtung? Ein Besuch der Ausstellung „Sehtest – Bewegte Blicke auf die Sammlung Marta“, die mit kuratorischen Mitteln ähnlichen Fragen stellt, ist vorgesehen.
