Many aspects of the Covid-19 pandemic have their foundation in modern bioinformatics and data science. While related concepts notoriously appear in the popular media and literature, sufficiently deep explanations are rarely provided. In this seminar, we will discuss papers that refer to driving issues of modern pandemics outbreak and control. Exemplary topics are PCR Testing, Fatality Rates, Infection Dynamics (Reproductive Number, Curve Fitting), mRNA Vaccines ("Software Vaccines"), Evolution of Viruses (Mutation Rates etc), Tracing (via Virus Genome Sequencing). Participants will choose selected papers, provide brief presentations, and write summaries of the topics treated. Depending on numbers of participants, participants are supposed to work in groups.

The binding module descriptions contain further information, including specifications on the "types of assignments" students need to complete. In cases where a module description mentions more than one kind of assignment, the respective member of the teaching staff will decide which task(s) they assign the students.
