Scott Fitzgerald, Ernest Hemingway, and William Faulkner are often featured among the writers who helped U.S.-American literature establish an aesthetic and political voice of its own. Their work maps the dialogue between individual and national discourses of identity and provides useful material for those interested in the cultural and historical complexity of the United States. This seminar will cover a variety of prose by these three U.S.-American Modernist authors, with a focus on group discussions and close readings of the texts. Students can thus improve their literary analysis skills and obtain a Studienleistung in this seminar. Please note that the first session of this course will take place on October 19!
