Visual perception and sensorimotor action control are considered in current day Experimental Psychology and Cognitive Neuroscience as interrelated functions. An open key question in this respect refers to the level of brain mechanism: How are the processes of acquiring and processing visual information for sensorimotor action and the processes for visual perception and cognition related? This question is the guideline question of the seminar.
We will read and discuss several recent review papers that focus on different aspects of this guideline question. Crucially, these recent reviews papers serve as a testbed for evaluating an older position paper (Neumann, 1990) with specific claims on the perception and action relationships. Which claims of the position papers still hold, for which claims has a novel sketch emerged?
The seminar targets at BSc students of psychology (major) who have selected "neuroscience" (Anwendungsfach IV „Neurowissenschaften“ ). Knowledge of the essential contents of lectures about Biological Psychology I & II, and Experimental Psychology (Allgemeine Psychologie I and II), and, Cognitive Neuroscience I & II is presupposed.
The seminar will be held in presence only at Bielefeld University (no online sessions!)

The binding module descriptions contain further information, including specifications on the "types of assignments" students need to complete. In cases where a module description mentions more than one kind of assignment, the respective member of the teaching staff will decide which task(s) they assign the students.
