This course is mandatory for all students planning to start their Praxissemester in September 2019. Please note: In summer 2019, there are two VPS classes available in English (with the second taking place on Wednesday). However, you only need to take ONE of these! The basics of classroom research will be discussed in both.
In this class, we will focus on issues related to classroom interaction in ELT such as error correction, comprehensible input, the use of the L1(s), praising (!), and methodology (with a special focus on making learners communicate in English). We will explore these issues with the help of video material from authentic, inclusive English classrooms. In doing so, we will cover the basics of classroom research needed for your practical term, develop first research questions, and draft one research project.

The binding module descriptions contain further information, including specifications on the "types of assignments" students need to complete. In cases where a module description mentions more than one kind of assignment, the respective member of the teaching staff will decide which task(s) they assign the students.
