Griechische Papyri bieten detaillierte Einblicke in die Sozial- und Wirtschaftsgeschichte des römischen Ägypten. Nirgendswo sonst in der griechisch-römischen Welt liegt so eine Fülle an dokumentarischen Texten vor. Anhand von Verträgen, Briefen oder Inventarlisten lässt sich die Lebenswelt der Dorf- und Stadtbewohner nachvollziehen. Dementsprechend möchte die Veranstaltung auch in die Papyrologie und den Umgang mit dieser Quellengattung einführen.

Zu erbringen sind fünf kleinere Studienleistungen. In jedem Fall werden regelmäßige Teilnahme und häusliche Vorbereitung der Übersetzung erwartet.

Erwartet werden brauchbare Griechischkenntnisse auf dem Niveau eines Graecum.
