230086 Introduction to English Language Teaching Methodology (GS) (S) (WiSe 2012/2013)

Contents, comment

This seminar is intended for those intending to teach at primary (Grundschule) level.

Of the three courses in Profile Module 8 this should be taken first, as it functions as an introduction to the module. The other two courses in the module assume knowledge from this course and build upon that knowledge. The course offers a survey of methods and approaches suited to the teaching of English as a foreign language to young learners.

Requirements for participation, required level

This is an introductory course and should be the first taken in Module 8. It is specifically aimed at those planning to teach at primary level.

Everyone, including those who only need two credit points, will have to prepare a practical example that will be demonstrated in class and a handout to be posted on StudIP. Also, everyone will be required to take part in a presentation. Presentation groups should also prepare a handout and post it on StudIP. There will not be a class test for marks, but everyone will take part in a class quiz. A satisfactory performance in this is regarded as part of active participation. Those who need 3LPs will have to hand in a paper by the end of the semester about a topic that is relevant in primary English teaching. For those who need grades, the practical example as well as the presentation as well as the paper will be marked.
