Das Seminar stellt anfangs den Wettbewerb „NRW debattiert Europa“ vor und führt dann in die Kunst des Debattierens ein. Die Teilnehmer*innen lernen die wichtigsten Debattierformate sowie das Präsentieren und überzeugende Darstellen von Argumenten kennen. Sie messen sich, unter Bewertung einer freien Jury, mit Teams anderer Universitäten in NRW (siehe: https://michael-kaeding.eu/nrwdebattierteuropa/).

Inhaltlich werden die Teilnehmer*innen – aufbauend auf vorhandenen Grundkenntnissen zur Europäischen Union – vorbereitet und befassen sich vertieft mit elementaren Aspekten der EU. In den Debatten geht es um aktuelle Fragen zu Institutionen der EU oder politischen Entscheidungen (in den letzten Jahren z.B. zur Klimapolitik oder Beitrittsverfahren Ukraine).

Das Seminar besteht aus miteinander verzahnten synchronen Elementen (inhaltliche Vorbereitung und (Probe-)Debatten) sowie asynchronen Lernformen (Gruppenarbeit zwischen den Sitzungen).
