392271 ISY Project: Rights & Access Management for the smart home framework BCO (Pj) (SoSe 2017)

Contents, comment

- Short Description

In smart homes we try to turn all devices used in our daily live into smart devices. For comfort reasons we try to fully connect these devices and make them uniformly controllable even without being physically present. This is perfect in a scenario where people want to know specific device states such as switch states of electric irons, the stove or coffee machines or where heating routines should be started before arriving at home. But thereby, new privacy and security issues arise. On the one hand people who have access to the home network should not automatically be able to control all devices. On the other hand some people like guests should be able to control specially selected devices in an easy way while not being able to control any others.

This project deals with the rights and access management of devices (actuators and sensors) in smart environments to handle the above mentioned situations. Strategies will be developed and solutions implemented for the smart home framework BCO. This includes the implementation of back-end components which restrict the ability to control and introspect devices. Additionally user-friendly frontend components are designed to define rights for users and authorisation groups and to assign them to specific devices and locations.
