Kollektives Gedächtnis, Erinnerung und Erinnerungskulturen sind Schlagworte, denen die literatur- und kulturwissenschaftliche Forschung seit einigen Jahren große Aufmerksamkeit zukommen lässt. Kunst- bzw. sozialwissenschaftliche Gedächtniskonzepte, wie sie Aby Warburg und Maurice Halbwachs bereits zu Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts entwickelt haben, finden dabei in den aktuellen Debatten genauso Berücksichtigung wie moderne Erinnerungs- und Gedächtniskonzepte von Jan und Aleida Assmann, Pierre Nora oder Harald Welzer.
Gerade im Hinblick auf literarische Texte, die sich mit dem Nationalsozialismus und der Shoah bzw. dem Holocaust auseinandersetzen ist das Erinnerungsparadigma und insbesondere die Frage nach der Inszenierung von Erinnerung und Gedächtnis in der Literatur und damit der „Mimesis von Erinnerung“ von Bedeutung. Das Seminar geht diesem Zusammenhang nach und wird dabei auch der Frage nachgehen, ob und wie sich die sog. Holocaustliteratur seit den 1960er Jahren verändert hat.
