392269 ISY Project: Text Generation to explain the results of multiple clinical trials (Pj) (SoSe 2019)

Contents, comment

Controlled clinical trials are experimental studies that compare groups of patients, one of which receives the treatment under investigation and another group receives either a placebo or the commonly used treatment. Meta-analyses aggregate evidence from multiple clinical trials in order to compare and evaluate their efficacy and safety of the treatments in question. The goal of this ISY project is to allow practitioners to explore clinical trials and meta-analyses in the form of automatically generated arguments in natural language, such as: "In 150 studies on glaucoma it was found that, in general, treatment A is superior to treatment B in terms of intraocular pressure (IOP) reduction. However, in 20 studies the opposite was found. In these studies, the habitus of treated patients significantly differed from those in the 150 studies, as most participants in those 20 studies spent on average 5 hours per day in front of a computer screen.

Please note that the teams will be selected by the supervisors on the basis of short applications that students are expected to send to them. Registering to the project in the ekVV will only be regarded as expression of interest; it will not secure a team membership. Please get in touch with the supervisors for information on the application procedure.
