Viele Lehr-Lernsituationen, gerade auch im Grammatik- bzw. im Sprachbetrachtungsunterricht werden medial über den Einsatz von Lehrbüchern organisiert. Lehrbücher spielen bildungspolitisch eine wichtige Rolle, sie bedürfen z.B. besonderer Prüfverfahren. Gleichzeitig unterliegen sie dem historischen Wandel und folgen dabei zeitversetzt den neuesten Einsichten aus der Methodik und Didaktik des Deutschunterrichts. Mehrere Dimensionen von (Sprach-) Lehrbüchern werden im Seminar thematisiert: 1. Die historische und bildungspolitische Dimension 2. Die fachliche Dimension 3. Die „kommunikative“ Dimension 4. Die mediale Dimension.
