Auf dieser Exkursion geht es um Formenkenntnis der Pflanzen und Tiere der Fels- (Hauptinsel) und zugleich der Sandküste (Düne). Zum festen Programm gehören Führungen im Institut für Vogelforschung, in der Hummerstation, im Meeresaquarium auch hinter den Kulissen (Technik/Wasseraufbereitung) und eine Ausfahrt mit dem Forschungsschiff Uthörn. Bei der Ausfahrt wird Plankton gefischt und über verschiedenen Bodenstrukturen „gedretscht“. Alle praktische Arbeiten sowie Tierhaltung und Seminarvorträge finden in den sehr gut ausgestatteten Kursräumen des AWI Helgoland statt. Zur Untersuchung der Meeresalgen darf das Felswatt im Bereich der Langen Anna betreten werden. Zur Untersuchung der Dünenvegetation und zum Beobachten der Seehunde und Kegelrobben sind Überfahrten zur Düne nötig. Zu allen Themenbereichen werden unterrichtspraktische Beiträge entwickelt, die auf Klassenfahrten eingesetzt werden können.
