Schwerpunkt unserer Betrachtungen werden die ersten beiden Bücher sowie die Hannibal-Episode sein. Dabei werden Sprache und Stil, Funktion der Episoden sowie die narratologische Technik im Mittelpunkt stehen. Das Werk wird zudem im Rahmen seiner Entstehung betrachtet.
