Wer schrieb römische Geschichte? Was macht römische Historiographie aus? Was macht sie überhaupt „römisch“? Wann beginnt sie, wann hört sie auf?
Im Rahmen dieses Methodikseminar setzen wir uns mit Texten der römischen Geschichtsschreibung auseinander – von Fabius Pictor über Tacitus hin zu Theophylakt Simokates. Behandelt werden lateinisch- und griechischsprachige Texte, von der römischen Republik bis zur Spätantike.
In vier Themenblöcken sollen historiographische Entwürfe, die sich mit dem Imperium Romanum beschäftigen, in Ausschnitten gelesen und diskutiert werden. Die Teilnehmerinnen und Teilnehmer sollen einen Überblick über die römische Historiographie, ihre Autoren und Konzepte gewinnen. Darüber hinaus werden die Transformationen der römischen Geschichtsschreibung beleuchtet. Den Anfang machen die frühen römischen Historiker, gefolgt von einer Auseinandersetzung mit republikanischen und kaiserzeitlichen Autoren, um mit den Texten spätantiker Autoren abzuschließen.
In jeder Sitzung wird exemplarisch ein Autor behandelt, wobei in Kommunikation mit Teilnehmerinnen und Teilnehmern thematische Schwerpunkte gesetzt werden.
