Bis in die 1930er Jahre hinein gehörten Duelle mit Pistolen oder Säbeln unter Offizieren, Studenten, Adeligen und dem gehobenen Bürgertum zu einer verbreiteten Praxis, um die eigene Ehre zu verteidigen. Die Liste berühmter Duellanten ist lang: Casanova, Alexander Puschkin, Alexandre Dumas, Otto von Bismarck, Wilhelm von Humboldt, Friedrich Engels, Heinrich Heine ... So verwundert nicht, dass das Duell mannigfaltig Eingang in die Weltliteratur fand.
Wir wollen uns anhand ausgewählter Texte dem Konzept des Duells, im Zuge dessen auch mit Ehre, Beleidigung, Mut/Feigheit auseinandersetzen und die (Entwicklungs-)Geschichte des Duells in den Blick nehmen.
Die Seminarteilnehmer*innen sind eingeladen, Lektürevorschläge zu unterbreiten. Zu denken wäre derweil u.a. an:
