Note: this course takes place online, with weekly Zoom meetings and extensive work on Lernraum+.
This course is intended for any student who is writing, or plans to write a longer academic work in English. (BA thesis, MA thesis, or PhD dissertation, or other projects). While this course is not discipline-specific, general tactics and writing methods, as well as research methods and time management skills will be covered.
This course is open to all levels, but a minimum level of B2 is recommended.+
Topics covered:
• Finding the right tone for your writing
• The nuances of writing longer works
• How to overcome writer’s block
• Researching in English
• How to find the right word
• Incorporating outside sources
• Common grammar issues
• Problems specific to German (or Spanish, Arabic, etc.) speakers when working in English
• Presenting your written work, particularly in a conference setting
Topics are open to change/addition based on student feedback - this will be discussed during the first meeting.
NOTE: A c-test (placement test) result is not required for this course.
