In the recent past, molecular biomedicine has contributed significantly to the expansion of medical knowledge in the field of diagnosis and therapy and, with its interdisciplinary contributions, forms the basis for better understanding the causes of diseases and thus optimising therapy.
With an interdisciplinary range of courses, resulting from cooperation between the Faculties of Biology, Physics and the Faculty of Technology, the degree programme aims to meet the modern requirements of interdisciplinary training in biomedicine in a special way and is therefore particularly geared towards modern biomedical research. At the same time, the interdisciplinary orientation offers students a research-intensive environment, insights into current methods and issues in biomedicine and the opportunity to write a thesis in cooperation with local clinics and medical institutes.
Developments from scientific research, such as new and rapidly available methods of sequencing genetic material, are increasingly finding their way into routine diagnostics in clinics. The aim of this development is personalised medicine that is geared towards the precise needs of the individual patient. The Interdisciplinary Biomedicine degree programme is positioned precisely in this highly innovative field and thus also represents an attractive basis for a doctorate in biomedical research.
The degree programme is divided into the following main research areas:
1. The profile Experimental Science places particular emphasis on molecular and cell-biological analyses of disease-relevant principles.
2. The profile Bioinformatics prepares students specifically for the analysis of large and complex data sets in biomedical research.
