This course is designed for students who with to prepare for the TOEIC test, the Test of International Communication. The TOEIC is an attractive option for students gearing up for an internship in an English-speaking commercial environment or a future career in a more business-oriented environment.
This test can be taken at Bielefeld University; the Language Center at our university is an authorized TOEIC test center.
The course follows a blended learning format: using materials made available through Stud.IP, the students can independently acquire the thematic vocabulary necessary for the test. The preparation for the oral and written sections of the test will be done in a block course.
Thematic areas include:
• Careers, personnel and workplaces (training, recruiting, hiring, meetings, office procedures, technology and facilities
• Communications (news, Internet, broadcasting)
• Retailing (products, services, purchasing, ordering and shipping, supplies)
• Corporate development (research, product development, manufacturing quality control, specifications, property and constructions, buying and renting)
• Industry (production, construction, automation, technical specifications etc.)
• General business (contracts negotiations, mergers, marketing, sales, business planning, conferences, labor relations)
• Trade (markets, shipping, import/export
• Dining out, leisure and travel
• Money (banking, budgets, investment, taxes, accounting)
• Environment (weather, natural resources, architecture)
• Health (nutrition, medicine, fitness, insurance, clinics, hospitals, doctors)
• Society (elections, education, law)

Important Note: There is a minimum requirement of 6 participants committed to taking the test for this course to go forward.
